Prairie Fest 2010 is a Record
Julie Farmer Receives Pride of Prairie Award

Last March the Prairie School Foundation’s
2010 Prairie Fest dinner/auction/dance
fundraiser event raised a record $68,000 for
the College Community School District. The
Back in Black theme had 360 guests casually
outfitted in blue jeans, bandanas, and black
leather for a fun-filled evening of
camaraderie and contribution.
One of the highlights of the Prairie Fest
event is the announcement of the annual
Pride of Prairie Award recipient. This
year’s award was presented Julie Farmer who
for the past decade has been a committed and
enthusiastic supporter, contributor, and
leader in our district’s vision of Success
for All. She has been a volunteer and
chairperson of countless events and
committees for the district. Julie is a
founding member of the Prairie Ridge PTO.
She donates her time, whether in the
classroom, concession stand, at book fairs,
or working with students, because of one
simple phrase which helps define her,
“Because Nice Matters”.
Because nice matters, Julie Farmer has
purchased lunches and bus passes to help
students who ran out of money. She once
bought a new agenda for a student who lost
it but really wanted to work on
organization. The list of her random acts
of kindness such as these goes on and
on.
Prairie Ridge Principal Tracy Laue said this
of Julie, “It is not the appreciation that
touches Julie. It is the opportunity to be
a part of something very special. It is the
spirit of Prairie that she recognizes and
manifests on a daily basis.”
Those three words, because nice matters, are
what Julie Farmer lives by and encourages
others to do. The College Community Schools
District is a better place because of the
efforts and kindness of people like her.
The Prairie School Foundation wishes to
thank Julie for her efforts and again
congratulate her on being the 2010 Pride of
Prairie Award winner.
